My first contact with Iyenga yoga was in Asturias in 2003 when I joined a course at the university where I was studying. Although Iyengar yoga was always my main reference, I wanted to have a broader vision of the different classical expressions of yoga, and so I was trained in hatha yoga based on Sivananda yoga, Ashtanga yoga and Nidra yoga of Satyananda. I also explored new trends of yoga and finally I became a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher Level 2. Iyengar Yoga Schweiz and BKS Iyengar.com

Tips for Iyengar Yoga practice
Stomach without food: to get the benefits of yoga practice, do not eat anything for 2-3 hours before arrival, as inversion postures or twists are common in yoga classes and their effects are compromised and can be even harmful on a full stomach. Drinking is not recommended during the practice.
Mat: The studio has mats available for you to use and they are cleaned after each session. Anyhow, you are welcome to bring your own mat if you prefer, but you can not leave it in the studio.
Clothing: in class wear simple clothes that allow you to move comfortably and that are not too tight.
Towel: to keep blankets and bolsters clean, please bring a towel to protect them from sweat.
Hygiene: come to class fresh and clean. Use unscented deodorant if necessary. Please no perfumes, lotions, moisturisers or oils.
Shoes: at the studio door, take your shoes off and put them on the balcony or under the benches in the changing room.
Health: inform the teacher if you have any injuries, illnesses, menstruation or pregnancy, so that he/she can adapt the practice to your particular conditions.
Telephone: mute the telephone in order to not disturb your and the others calm.
Props: in the studio we have props (belts, wooden bricks, blankets, ropes, chairs, trestler,…) that are part of the Iyengar yoga method. They allow to adapt the practice to all levels of mobility and help to understand the actions that make the postures safe and maintainable.
Beginners
There are several beginners classes during the week that you can join, in which the asanas (postures) will be introduced and explained in a gradual way. That’s how you can consolidate what you have learnt and make it enjoyable.
There are also classes for all levels during the week. In these classes the teacher will adapt the practice to your conditions.
Enjoy being a beginner in the practice of yoga and entering a new activity full of possibilities with a fresh and free mind.
No special qualities are required to be a practitioner of yoga, only regularity, determination and discipline, accompanied by liveliness, passion and courage. B.K.S Iyengar
